Make Everything Work in the Direction of Happiness

What three things do you do every day, without fail, that contribute to your happiness on your entrepreneurial journey?

It sounds like a simple question to ask and I know many of you will know exactly how to answer it, but what about those of you who are struggling to identify what has become a ritual in your day to day working life?

When you make a decision to start a business, it’s usually because you want to make an income out of performing a service or creating a product that you love to do. I don’t think (and correct me if I’m wrong) that many people start up a business in something that they have little or no interest in. There has to be an amount of satisfaction as a result and let’s face it, it does take a lot of determination, motivation and discipline to make it a success.

So…during the times when you are pushing yourself to get things up and running with your own precious business are you taking time to take care of yourself and keeping that work life balance in check? It’s so easy to fall into ‘machine’ mode, working day and night. It becomes quite addictive to just keep on going, however, sometimes it can result in you forgetting why you started in the first place. Wasn’t it something to do with not just making money but happiness too?

Speaking from experience, I have put a lot of hard work into my business. Working 15 hour days, not sleeping well, stressed and anxious just in case I missed something, and not to mention the change in my physical self due to being sat in front of a computer all day. It took me to a point where I felt completely miserable. Totally the opposite to what I was aiming for when I started up. I’d lost the focus on exactly what I wanted to achieve and at that point of realisation, it was time to put the breaks on and check on the diversion that I’d taken, without realising I had.

So now I implement rituals into my day that not only benefit my business dreams but my personal aspirations to.

  • I write ‘morning pages’ – 3 pages of daily blurts before I even get out of bed. Followed by affirmations of course.
  • I try to get out and exercise, even if it’s just a walk each day
  • I take time at the end of my day to review what I’ve achieved and give myself a little credit where it’s due.
